"How much life insurance do I need?"

Many articles will tell you to multiply your income by a certain number. While those formulas can be a helpful starting point, they don't tell your family's story.

Instead, I ask my clients one simple question:

If you didn't make it home tonight, what would your family need to keep life looking as normal as possible?

Would they be able to stay in the house?

Would they be able to pay the bills?

Would your children stay in the same school?

Would your income need to be replaced?

Those answers are what determine how much life insurance makes sense—not a one-size-fits-all formula.

There's one more thing to remember: Life insurance is something you qualify for before you need it. Waiting until after your health changes can limit your options or make coverage more expensive.
